4 Steps to start reading more books

"I wish I could read more, but I don't have the time."

Was that you, at some point in time? Or any variation of "I wish I could read more, but..."

I've been there! And I know how hard it is to find the time to do the things we HAVE TO do, let alone the things we WANT TO do.

There have been times when my friends would talk about this book and that book, and I'd feel so jealous of them for "having" the time to read so much!
Until I realized they were making the time for this hobby, this passion that is reading.

I tried a lot of approaches to start reading more books, but not all of them worked (and some were super time-consuming!) I'll share with you what worked for me!

Here are 4 tips to help you start reading more books!

  • 1. Start small, one day at a time

Start with 5-10 pages per day or a chapter.

Don't put pressure on yourself regarding the exact number of pages you're reading.

    You're reading! That's important.

  • 2. Read what you want, not what you "should"

You should enjoy what you're reading. It shouldn't feel like "work". Ignore the pressure to read what's trending, or what's popular now.

Read what you want to read!

  • 3. Remove distractions, as much as you can

It's easier to focus on the task at hand if you're not easily distracted by your surroundings. As soon as the kids are asleep, the dog has been outside, and any other things that needed your attention can spare you for a little time, find a quiet corner and immerse into the book.

  • 4. Find a reading buddy and share the experience!

The easiest way to hold us accountable to those 5-10 pages is to have someone waiting to talk to us about them. Find a reading buddy who enjoys the same books and get excited about the stories together!

That's it! These tips worked for me when I wanted to start reading more books.
